Practicalities and Timing of wedding ceremonies in Fiji
Fiji is a stress-free and beautiful place to get married and most resorts offer wedding packages with ceremonies held on the beachfront. For those with large groups in attendance, getting married on the main island of Viti Levu is more convenient, although at the large resorts it is sometimes difficult to escape the crowds and you may well have other guests peering in on your wedding ceremony. The atmosphere on the offshore islands is far more intimate and a much better option for smaller wedding parties.
If getting married on the beach, find out about the tides and sun direction before fixing a time and bear in mind between 11am and 3pm the sun is extremely hot. Morning weddings are worth considering as its not only cooler and less windy, but it’s less likely to rain – there’s nothing more dampening than reciting your vows in a makeshift alter in the resort restaurant or huddling under an umbrella.
What time of day should I get married?
Unfortunately I don't often have the luxury of time at weddings, with most ceremonies starting after 3pm with the sun setting at 6pm - giving only a couple of hours of daylight photography (my preferred time for the ceremony is between 3.30pm and 4pm although some couples may find the sun to be rather too hot at this time. Sunset weddings can be stunning but most often the sun ducks behind a cloud leaving the last hour of daylight to be flat and difficult for stunning natural light photography. Unfortunatley twilight in Fiji lasts no more than five minutes - as soon as the sun dips behind the horizon it's dark! Rest assured though, I will do all I can to capture those special moments and this quite commonly is achieved at the guest reception or dinner - partly after the booze has started to flow but more so once the focus is taken off me and you are in full party mode ...
