Chapel Weddings
When most people think of getting married in the South Pacific, they think of beach weddings. But there is a growing number of resorts that now offer their own private chapels for wedding ceremonies. These weddings are great for those who want to have a traditional wedding, usually with their relatives and friends in attendance, but in an exotic location. Fiji is the only country in the South Pacific to offer private chapels and at present the following resorts have chapels:
Sheraton / Westin, Denarau Island, Nadi
Spacius chapel, whitewashed and fully air-conditioned, on the point between Sheraton Resort and Sheraton Villas. Lovely outlook to sea though huge glass windows. However, once outside the church, lack of privacy as close to hotel rooms.
Sofitel Resort, Denarau Island, Nadi
Small wooden chapel tucked under light trees between the beach and hotel rooms..
Fijian Resort, Coral Coast
Beautiful whitewashed chapel right beside the ocean. Fully air-conditioned and very private as set a good five minutes walk from the nearest hotel rooms. However poor wedding co-ordination and multiple weddings at any given time let this venue down.
Outrigger Resort, Coral Coast
New chapel opened in 2007 perched ontop of the hill overlooking the resort. Wonderful views but not beachfront.
Musket Cove Resort, Mamanuca Islands
Wooden chapel built for the resort owners daughters' wedding. The chapel is set on a small hill with obscured only partial ocean views, but once inside the chapel there is nothing to look at outside except greenery. Wooden, rather heavy interior, lots of open windows for breeze. This is a small resort so intimacy is a priority and service is excellent.
Treasure Island, Mamanuca Islands
Whitewashed chapel amongst shaded trees with a huge glass window with ocean views. Fully air-conditioned. Small island resort has intimate atmosphere.
